SET’s Safety Management Systems’ OSHA 10 hour training for construction workers provides best practices to keeping everyone on the job safe, healthy, and OSHA compliant.

If you work in construction, you have heard of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, otherwise known as OSHA. OSHA sets federal guidelines designed to protect employees, customers and clients; businesses are legally required to follow these guidelines. An OSHA regulation violation can lead to stiff penalties, and more importantly, can also create a hazardous, or possibly even deadly, construction zone. OSHA compliance is often complicated because of the many rules and guidelines. Without proper training on best practices for construction zone safety, infractions can become commonplace. SET’s Safety Management Systems offers an OSHA 10 Hour training class for construction safety and health to help avoid such infractions.

Why OSHA 10 Hour Training?

Our OSHA 10 Hour training class is designed to help business leaders, supervisors, safety managers and their team familiarize themselves with these mandatory OSHA regulations. This all-day seminar is tailored to those in the construction industry, to be as pointed and thorough as possible. In a single one-day session, the OSHA 10 Hour training class for construction workers imparts the knowledge necessary OSHA compliance and construction zone safety.

OSHA Standards

Classes such as OSHA 10 Hour training are important to businesses because of the sometimes dense language of the OSHA standards, or certain rules that are not well known within an industry. SET’s professional and experienced instructors know these regulations inside and out, and during our training seminars, the federally mandated rules are explained and detailed for a more comprehensive understanding. Additionally, our instructors cover tasks for health and safety that construction workers and supervisors must complete for OSHA compliance as well as tips for those in construction management.

Customization for Your Industry

Several courses offered here at SET are tailored to construction workers. Each OSHA 10 Hour training course is focused on teaching applicable information. The instructor’s customized lesson is dedicated to constructionspecific safety concerns, which helps to ensure that relevant concerns and questions will be addressed. Of course, a broader base of information about OSHA standards is provided in our other training courses as well.

Benefits of Training

The overall point of OSHA 10 Hour training is to help participants recognize, avoid, and prevent hazardous workplace and job site situations. This leads to greater safety, which is important, but the training provides other benefits as well. Through this training, participants will learn how to avoid common penalties and fines associated with noncompliance, and covers employee rights in the area of health and safety. Finally, it also teaches how to communicate effectively with officials from OSHA and discusses the OSHA workplace accident reporting practices.

With the proper understanding, your workplace will be safer, and accidents and resulting lawsuits can be avoided. The OSHA 10 Hour training program through SET Environmental Inc. is very beneficial. One of the best ways to learn best practices for construction workers, or other industries, it to enroll in one of our training courses online. Our upcoming Little Rock course is accepting participants now. You can also contact us to learn more about training services.

The post OSHA 10 Hour Training Best Practices for Construction Workers appeared first on SEA Inc..

Chemicals and hazardous waste materials are common in many work places. Laboratories, schools, warehouses, factories, medical facilities, and many other establishments have chemicals present, and the containers used to store them are standardized by various regulatory agencies. Often, the containers and materials inside of them can become contaminated, out-of-date, damaged, or unneeded, and must be disposed of following the procedures set forth by the government.

Disposal of hazardous waste and lab decommissioning is regulated by many government agencies and must be completed by a certified specialist familiar with proper federally mandated policies. The SET Safety Management Systems personnel are HAZWOPER and HAZMAT certified in hazardous materials management and know the laws related to safely, and efficiently disposing of all hazardous chemicals. In fact, the Little Rock training facility teaches courses to help businesses meet OSHA, EPA, and other government regulatory standards.

Chemicals

Even if your business is not a laboratory full of obvious chemicals, over time your facility may end up with as many small containers (usually less than 10 gallons each) that contained chemicals or hazardous materials as those in a lab setting. Depending on your business or facility, there may be a wide variety of hazardous chemicals that require disposal including: paint, thinners, strippers, cleaners, acids, bases, solvents, and compounds for dry cleaning or pool cleaning.

In public school chemistry labs, commonly used chemicals such as picric acid become explosive as they age, and can cause an explosion just from the friction of opening the lid. Fire hazards are a problem for stored solvents such as Acetone, Methyl Ethyl Ketone, Xylene, Ether and Toluene which are extremely flammable. A certified hazardous materials management team, like SET’s, is required to properly categorize, pack, transport, and dispose of these chemicals within EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulatory guidelines.

Hazards

You might not be aware of the very common chemicals that are categorized as hazardous wastes after they have been used. Cleaning solutions, aerosol cans of paint, and degreasers might fall within the government’s “hazardous waste” category and require proper disposal, which can be executed by a certified hazardous materials management team.

With an our on-staff chemist, the professionals at SET Safety Management Systems understand how compounds and chemicals behave. For the benefit of everyone’s health and safety, our specialists have successfully completed over 3,500 lab-packing projects for general industry, construction, and government agencies.

According to OSHA regulations, and depending on the industry you are in, there are a variety of special safety training programs your employees should receive. It is vital that your company provides all industry specific, legally mandated training to your employees or to those fulfilling certain roles. Training and courses like those provided by SEA, Inc. can keep your company regulation compliant, and your employees safe and better protected.

That being said, if your company or any team member will be working with, or might come in contact with hazardous materials, special safety and environmental training courses are a must. Without HAZMAT training, your business could be in violation of federal laws. Not only is this a dangerous situation for your staff, and possibly for your neighbors, and the environment, but without the training that regulatory organizations like OSHA, the EPA, and the DOT require, you could have fines and penalties levied against your firm.

Generally speaking, if your business works with, produces, transports, or does anything with hazardous or potentially hazardous materials, your employees need to know how to avoid HAZMAT incidents. HAZMAT training gives your employees the necessary knowledge to adhere to HAZMAT guidelines keeping them safe, and protecting the environment. Training also includes instruction on how your staff should respond to a HAZMAT incident if one occurs; this includes showing them how to isolate the incident, and evacuate a dangerous area.

Because of the wide variety of regulatory guidelines that are required for specific industries, there are also a variety of training courses available to your business. SEA, Inc. customizes training courses based on needs of the business in an industry, and the regulatory requirements. A one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work for training when it comes to hazardous materials. Your team must be aware of situations that could actually be encountered, and they need to be well trained for real, potential situations.

These courses not only meet the expectations of regulatory bodies, keeping your business from getting into trouble by violating laws and your employees safe, but it also exceeds those expectations by keeping the community and environment safe if an incident should occur.

There are several HAZMAT, hazardous waste, and other courses you may need to provide to your employees. Courses like HAZWOPER, and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response, are comprehensive, and required by OSHA for many companies.

Beyond training, it is important to note that your employees may not be able to do it all. In some situations, outside help may be required for environmental management services for high hazard remediation services, or some hazardous waste services like identification, transportation, or disposal. Through education, you can learn when this is might be necessary for your business.

To find out more about the various OSHA safety training courses that may be required for your particular business, contact SEA, Inc., a leader in the industry. SEA Inc. offers a wide range of safety training courses, and you can learn more by calling us at 888-627-8740 or by filling out our convenient online contact form. Get in touch with us today because the sooner your employees receive this important training, the sooner you will have a safer workplace.

The post Environmental Safety Training Your Business Needs appeared first on SEA Inc..

OSHA was created in 1971 to administer the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970. The act established a nationwide program to protect workers from injury, illness, and death caused by unsafe working conditions. Small businesses are required to comply with OSHA regulations.

Abiding by OSHA laws is not only required, it makes smart business sense. Employees who become ill or are injured due to unsafe working conditions are costly. Reductions in staff morale, decreased productivity, significant costs, and high turnover are often direct results of inadequate attention to the quality of the workplace.

Getting Started

OSHA and small businesses share the responsibility when it comes to fostering a healthy and safe place in which to work.

If your company deals with hazardous materials, you are required to provide hazardous materials training to your employees. In fact, failure to make HAZMAT training a requirement in such instances is a violation in and of itself. Without being careful, a company can be slapped with thousands of dollars in fines and penalties from OSHA, DOT and other regulatory bodies and organizations. Simply discussing the safe handling of hazardous materials isn’t enough. To ensure compliance and safety, HAZMAT training is essential. For superior HAZMAT training, SEA, Inc. is the name to trust.

Top Reasons to Enroll Employees in HAZMAT Safety Training Classes

HAZMAT training from SEA, Inc. brings many key benefits to the table. If your company engages in the shipping, receiving, handling or storage of hazardous materials or waste, you can’t afford to go without top-quality safety training courses by SEA, Inc. A few of the top reasons to sign up for HAZMAT training by SEA, Inc. include:

Avoid Severe Civil and Criminal Penalties - If your employees aren’t properly trained, they are more likely to violate important HAZMAT regulations. Each violation can bring severe fines and penalties. Your company could face fines of up to $27,000 per violation, so it’s well worth it to invest money in HAZMAT training now and avoid those costs later.

Comply with Regulations - OSHA, DOT and other organizations have strict HAZMAT regulations in place for a number of reasons. The hazards that are involved with handling hazardous materials are all too real. Avoiding fines isn’t the only reason to comply with these regulations. If you’re serious about running a legitimate company, it’s crucial to ensure that every single employee is aware of HAZMAT regulations and has received the right training. SEA, Inc. can help.

Avoid HAZMAT Incidents and Tragedies - Fines and penalties are bad, but the emotional toll of dealing with HAZMAT incidents is far worse. Workers are injured and killed in HAZMAT incidents all the time. In many cases, employees were violating various HAZMAT regulations. Unfortunately, many employers don’t make HAZMAT training a top priority. In addition to losing a lot of money, these companies often have to cope with devastating tragedies that could have been avoided with the right training.

A workplace safety audit takes a snapshot of the safe work practices that employees use. The announcement of a safety audit generally results in some discomfort among management, supervisory staff and even the workforce. While everyone knows that safety equipment and usage rules are in place for work place safety, a realistic appraisal of daily practices shows that workers sometimes cut corners.

At times, the safety precautions may seem too burdensome to seasoned workers who are well-versed with the workings of a machine. Other reasons for occasionally not using all the safety equipment available include efforts to save time and the personal confidence that “just this once” nothing bad will happen. Not surprisingly, when an OSHA safety audit is announced, there is quite a bit of anxiety.

Safety experts have come to realize that most employers furnish all of the required safety equipment to their workers. Companies also ensure that all affected employees receive proper training in the use of safety gear and safe workplace practices. When injuries do occur, there is generally a determination that workers engaged in unsafe behavior in spite of available policies and gear.

What are some of the telltale signs that your company may not be ready for a safety audit?

Safety equipment is largely unused. If safety gear is still in its original packaging or shows very little wear, there is a good chance that employees only use it infrequently.

Management insists on last-minute worker training sessions. It is possible that some supervisors have ignored lax safety practices. If management insists on doing some training sessions prior to an audit, this is a warning signal that staff members are not working safely as a matter of daily practice.

No recent audit by a compliance specialist. The employer has not engaged the services of a company specializing in compliance audits. These professionals evaluate daily workplace practices to note unsafe behaviors that would lead to failing marks from a government evaluator.

Preventing workplace injury requires full cooperation from management and the workforce. Safety audits evaluate the level of cooperation the employer receives. Results help employers to reinforce the training procedures that are already available. In a few cases, the audit helps a company to minimize liability by instituting new procedures or purchasing updated safety equipment. Doing a compliance analysis of training materials, schedules and accident reports also helps pinpoint possible weak points in a company’s ability to adequately train its workforce with respect to safety practices.

Employers realize that safety violations are not necessarily clear at the corporate or supervisory levels, particularly if these violations are part of the daily flow of work being done. If there have been no injuries, a manager or supervisor is unlikely to stop and consider the safety of a procedure.

Safety & Environmental Associates, Inc. is the company that employers call for workplace safety training and auditing. Specializing in compliance evaluation, reporting and instruction, SEA Inc. offers training courses and in-person evaluations. Employers may contact SEA Inc. online or by calling 888-627-8740.

The post How Do You Know if Your Company is Ready for a Safety Audit? appeared first on SEA Inc..

If you work in construction, warehousing or the service industry, you are probably familiar with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, popularly known as OSHA. Businesses are required to follow OSHA guidelines in order to protect their employees and clients. If you fail to meet OSHA guidelines, you may face hefty penalties and earn a bad reputation in your community.

Thankfully, many OSHA infractions can be prevented with comprehensive OSHA training. SEA Inc. provides both OSHA ten-hour training and 30-hour training courses designed to provide safety managers, site supervisors, business leaders and employees with the knowledge they need in order to comply with OSHA guidelines. The unique OSHA 10 training offered by SEA Inc. is a great way for business leaders to ensure that they are ready to handle the challenges they will encounter when trying to meet OSHA standards.

What Do OSHA Training Classes Entail?

At their base, OSHA training courses are designed to familiarize business leaders and their employees with the OSHA safety regulations that they must follow. SEA Inc. courses explain sometimes-confusing OSHA terms and regulations to individuals who are in supervisory or leadership roles. Both 10-hour and 30-hour classes are designed to provide individuals with a broad base of knowledge about OSHA standards and how OSHA itself operates. Training is designed to help you recognize, prevent and avoid hazardous situations in your workplace.

OSHA training courses also cover the tasks that supervisors and employers are required to complete. They provide tips for how to ensure that employees comply with OSHA regulations. Each training course by SEA Inc. is tailored to the needs of your workplace, meaning that your trainer will dedicate time and attention to your particular workplace safety concerns. You’ll also understand what OSHA demands of you as an employer. You should keep the following four benefits of OSHA training in mind.

Learn how to avoid fines. After completing OSHA training, you’ll know how to avoid the most common fines and penalties that arise from poor compliance with OSHA regulations. You’ll also know how to communicate effectively with OSHA officials.

Gain a better understanding of employee rights. As an employer, you are responsible for protecting your employees and respecting their rights. You will learn all about employee rights and your duties in protecting these rights during training.

Become comfortable with the OSHA reporting process. The process for reporting workplace accidents can be confusing. You’ll be walked through the OSHA reporting process step-by-step, ensuring that you can stay in compliance with reporting regulations.

Protect your business from expensive lawsuits. If you have completed OSHA training and can show that you did due diligence in protecting employees and clients, you may be able to avoid costly lawsuits arising from workplace injuries.

Methamphetamine (meth) exposure to a home or office will leave behind a host of chemicals in the walls, floors, carpeting and ceilings. This dangerous residue consists of mercury, lead, lithium and iodine and even meth itself. These are all highly poisonous substances to humans, especially young children and older adults. Exposure to the slightest amounts of these substances can result in damage to the central nervous system, liver and blood production. The health hazards from meth contamination exposure are innumerable.

If you suspect meth has been used in your home or office, you should have the property tested immediately. A home meth lab can cause a great deal of damage to a commercial or residential property. Detection can be difficult because residue from meth may be invisible. Having a property analyzed and assessed is imperative when exposure may have occurred.

In Arkansas as well as other states Meth clean-up must be done by a certified contractor with experience in the process of cleaning properties that have had exposure to meth. SEA is an industry leader in the process of cleaning properties that have been exposed to hazardous chemicals. They have successfully cleaned thousands of properties that have been exposed to meth.

There are many myths that can be dispelled about the detection of meth exposure.

Common Myths Associated With Meth Contamination Detection

“You can tell there is meth exposure by the smell.”

This is an terrible method of detecting meth manufacturing. If you can smell it you are exposing yourself to the dangers. Current methods of manufacturing meth produce various odors during production; however, after a short time, there may be little or no odor at all. Never think that a smell is a reasonable indication of exposure; it’s unreliable.

“Just smoking meth is not a problem.”

Nothing could be further from the truth. Repeated smoking of meth in a home will leave dangerous levels of hazardous chemical residue that can cause serious health problems.

“High-end neighborhoods are safe.”

This is untrue. Many meth labs have been found in million dollar neighborhoods.

It is advisable to have your property tested when you suspect it has been exposed to meth chemicals. SEA can effectively handle the testing and the meth clean-up process to remedy air quality problems caused by meth. Below is a sampling of a typical meth clean-up process.<img src="http://seainc.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/sea_whitepaper-238x300.jpg" alt="SEA, Inc.
